Japanese Maples
Selected over the centuries, Japanese maples have long been a staple in oriental gardens. By time and selection refined from nature, they offer a wide variety of leaf forms, colors, tree sizes, seasonal color changes, adaptability, and use. Miniature tree forms and dwarf garden forms have long been a staple of bonsai artists and gardeners. Dissectum tree forms provide outstanding specimen focus points, especially in late October or early November with their brilliant fall colorations. Maples offer various colors in early spring, a change for summer, and then spectacular color for a brief two weeks in later fall. A real pleasure is to see those varieties with the green leaves with splashes of white and sometimes pink added. The threadlike leaves of the weeping dissectum forms add unusual texture to the umbrella tree forms. Bark can also add interest to the garden with coral bark forms or cork bark types.
