We intend to provide you with the best possible information on azaleas and other rhododendrons. Our emphasis is on southern U.S. native species and plants that grow well in the southeastern portion because that is what we know the best.

This news blog keeps you informed on upcoming meetings, field trips, new information on our web site, and other interesting tidbits as they come to our attention.

The Azalea Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society's 2020 Annual Plant Sale has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The chapter looks forward to the day when we can get together again to share knowledge and experiences in our common interest.  In the meantime, perhaps practicing social distancing is best done while working and enjoying one's own garden.

The Azalea Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society's Annual Plant Sale, typically has over 1,200 plants.  Scheduled in April ,over a weekend with Friday late afternoon and Saturday mornings through early afternoon until most plants are sold.  The Oak Grove United Methodist Church, located at 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA 30033 graciously allows the chapter to hold the plant sale in their parking lot.  We hope to you see you at a future plant sale.

Until then, stay safe.

When you click on the Calendar menu tab at the top of any of our web pages, you will open our calendar. Here you will find our scheduled meetings, field trips, and other events.

We offer three ways to look at scheduled dates: chronologically (by year), by month, and by category (meetings, field trips, other events). You can also search for a particular event. In any of these views, clicking on an event will open a page with more details, including the contact for more information. Use the back tab at the top left of the screen to go back to the previous page.

Welcome to 2019! We at the Azalea Chapter ARS are looking forward to spring. More of our past Azalea Blooms newsletters have been added to our website. We think they are outstanding, interesting, colorful, and packed with information. We believe in pictures! Of course, if you want to read our newsletters in a timely manner as soon as they are released, become a member of our chapter and have them sent hot off the electronic press directly to your email inbox.

In these past newsletters just posted here on our site, you will find information not only on our meetings and field trips, but also on spectacular members’ gardens, the best annual azalea and rhododendron plant sale in the Southeast, Rhododendron flammeum, Growing Rhododendrons in Atlanta, Creel-way propagation, members gardens, seed dispersal, reason for botanical names,  Magnolias, double flowers, ornamental grasses, and much more.

Our meetings are an excellent way to grow in knowledge about not only azaleas, but other companion plants.  Socials help us to get to know our fellow members a little better and enjoy delicious dishes as well.  The newsletter continues to keep you updated on activities as well as providing a forum for interesting articles.   I look forward to 2020 and another great year for the Azalea Chapter.

We have just added a new website feature for our Azalea Chapter members: a discussion forum. This forum is limited to members of our chapter and our close friends.

Create an Account

You must first create an account to use the forum, and your user account must be approved by the site administrator before you can access the forum.

The reason is two-fold: Public forum sites get all sorts of spam and worse. We are not interested in how to make an extra $2,000 a month from our home with almost no effort. In just a few days of creating the forum, we received several requests to join from foreign addresses with unintelligible names. How they found us so quickly I do not know. Secondly, our intention is to have a small group where one will feel able to ask questions without being intimidated. You will be among friends here, with novices and experts both, ready to learn, share experiences, and tell stories of what we have seen in the woods or in our gardens.

Access the Forum

To join the forum, click on the Forums tab at the top of the page and create a new account. we will need your name, a short user name, and email address. You will also choose a password to secure you account. Your account must be approved by the website administrator. Once approved, to access the forum topics, just login with your user name and password and click on the topics you want to see or enter a new one.

Start Discussing

It is easy to add a new topic yourself or reply to one already posted. Click on the appropriate button and start typing. When finished, click on Preview and finally click Submit.

Questions?

If you have any questions after signing up, just ask in the General Topics category. We'll try to get you an answer. We are just learning ourselves.

Not a Member? Please Join
